About

Our initiative is set out to be a place where black women can have hands-on baking and decorating training and experience in Calgary, Alberta. Our goal is to ensure that our participants who will be mostly black women are empowered to create, impact and flourish through baking and decorating cakes for any occasion.

At the end of the training, the women who participate should be empowered to create unique, delicious and unforgettable designs using the best quality ingredients, to produce cakes and treats fit for any occasion or event.

We also intend to teach women how to incorporate ideas, themes, and personalities of the clients they are baking for to bring to life a cake design that will be the centerpiece of an event and an object spoken about long after the event.

Our Vision

To create a world where black women and children armed with culinary expertise, are catalysts for positive change in their communities, driving economic empowerment and inspiring others to achieve excellence.

Our Mission

Empower Bakes is dedicated to providing women with the tools, resources, and support they need to thrive in the culinary world. Through hands-on training, mentorship programs, and community engagement, we strive to empower women to unleash their full potential and pursue fulfilling careers in the culinary arts.

About Me

Meet the Trainer

I am Ade, a professional baker with years of experience

Having grown up in a family with a mom who was a caterer and had a passion for baking and cooking sumptuous meals, Ade was introduced to baking cakes, puddings, pies, and snacks at a very tender age.

Growing Years

While all the four children were helping mom in the kitchen to prepare one treat, snacks or cakes as desserts to be consumed after the main meal every Sunday, Ade showed more interest in this profession than her other siblings as she was always eager to assist with the creaming of the butter and sugar to make the cake or pudding or roll out the pastry for whatever was being made. Ade was the only one who took after mom profession-wise.

My Professional Journey

My journey into the professional world of cake making began when my first nephew turned one in 1981 and I baked him a two-tier birthday cake. It was not easy, but the task was accomplished when my first wedding cake was for a colleague of mine with whom we attended high school together.  My friend from high school insisted to her family and husband-to-be, that I was the one to make her wedding cake, a journey that I had never embarked on before. I succeeded in my first wedding cake assignment in 1985. Everybody liked the taste and the design and of course, this emboldened me to venture into cake making.
